Douglas Hill is the first hill and bedrock outcrop in Halifax Bay south of Hinchinbrook Island. The 50 m high hill forms the southern boundary to Balgal Beach and around its 1 km base are two small beaches, while on its south side the small settlement of Toomulla is located between the hill and the wandering mouth of Saltwater Creek. Toomulla lies just 2 km from the highway, with vehicle tracks also leading to the hill and the southern end of Balgal Beach. Toomulla Point Beach (842) is a 100 m long, north-east facing pocket of sand located immediately around a low, rocky point from the Douglas Hill Beach. A short access road and car park service both beaches. Rocks fringe either end and sand waves extend 200 m off the beach. Freehold land and some substantial houses overlook the small beach.
