Cathedral beach (FR8B) occupies the next 14 km from Wyuna Creek to The Pinnacles, a prominent coffeerock formation. This beach encompasses a park ranger station and southern park boundary and includes the Cathedral Resort and camping area. There is a ranger station 4 km north of the boundary. The Cathedral refers to the coloured sand dunes that are exposed in all the freshly scarped dunes. The colour, layers and coffeerock all derive from concentrations of soluble minerals produced by hundred of thousands of years of soil formation in the older and lower dunes. Cathedral Beach maintains the low gradient swash zone, rip-dominated inner bar, longshore trough and outer bar. It is backed by 60 to 100 m high scarped dunes, rising to 200 m inland. While most are densely vegetated, this section is also backed by the Koorooman, Beemeer and Nulla Kunggur sand blows. read more
