Cassoway, Leichhardt and Christmas Creeks are three parallel creeks that have all delivered sand to the Halifax Bay shoreline, resulting in the beach building out on the order of several hundred metres. In between the abandoned beaches are mangrove-covered tidal flats. As a result of the low-lying nature of the land, there has been little development of this 6.5 km long section of the bay. There are vehicle access tracks leading to near the mouth of each of the creeks and a few shacks set back from the coast, but otherwise no major settlements or development. Leichhardt Creek Beach (845) is a dynamic, low sand spit that extends north from the mouth of Leichhardt Creek for up to 1 km. This is a low energy but highly dynamic strip of shore, that is influenced by both the creek and the waves. The low beach is fronted by sand and rock flats up to 600 m wide. read more
