Douglas Hill is the first hill and bedrock outcrop in Halifax Bay south of Hinchinbrook Island. The 50 m high hill forms the southern boundary to Balgal Beach and around its 1 km base are two small beaches, while on its south side the small settlement of Toomulla is located between the hill and the wandering mouth of Saltwater Creek. Toomulla lies just 2 km from the highway, with vehicle tracks also leading to the hill and the southern end of Balgal Beach. Douglas Hill Beach (841) lies on the north side of the hill and consists of 200 m of sand that is continuous at low tide, but divided into three small pockets at high tide, all backed by the steep slopes of the hill.
