Googarra Beach (789) is best known for the two settlements at either end - Hull Heads at the northern tip on the Hull River inlet, and Tully Heads at the southern tip on the Tully River mouth. The two settlements lie just over 10 km in from the Bruce Highway and about 15 km from Tully. There is a caravan park at Tully Heads and another at the junction of the two roads to Tully Heads. Both have boat ramps and are popular fishing and holiday destinations. The beach linking the two settlements is 4.5 km long, faces south-east and is bordered at each end by the dynamic Hull and Tully River mouths and their associated tidal channels and extensive tidal shoals, that extend a few hundred metres seaward. Away from the tidal shoals, the beach is exposed to waves averaging 0.5 m that produce a moderately steep high tide beach, fronted by a near-continuous low tide bar. Beyond the low tide bar are one to two more outer bars, that are maintained by periods of higher waves accompanying strong Trade winds.
Beach Length: 4.5km
General Hazard Rating: 3/10
