King Beach is a 3 km long, south-east facing beach located in Wide Bay, in lee of Fitzroy Island 2.5 km offshore. The beach is bounded by prominent, 200 to 300 m high headlands that extend more than 1 km seaward. The main beach (737) is backed by extensive vegetated coastal dunes, with a 10 m high foredune behind the beach. At the junction of the northern headland and the beach is a small, 100 m long pocket beach (736), bordered by scattered granite boulders. Between the two beaches is a previously occupied clearing. There is, however, no vehicle access to the beach. The main beach is composed of coarse sand and consequently is relatively narrow at high tide, with a steep beach face, fronted by a 50 to 100 m wide continuous bar. During the Trades, waves 0.5 to 1 m high break across the bar at mid to low tide.
