The western shore of Upstart Bay has four beaches between the southern channel of the Burdekin River, Groper Creek and Molongle Creek. All four are accessible by vehicle and have some degree of fishing shack and holiday settlements. RM Beach (900) lies on the southern side of 15 m high RM Point, which forms the southern boundary of RM Creek. There is a fishing settlement on the point containing a string of about 20 shacks, linked by a gravel road to the highway 8 km away. RM Beach runs from the eastern side of the point for 3.5 km to the mouth of Molongle Creek. It initially faces north-east but swings around to face north by the creek. It is backed by a series of old beach ridges and fronted by 1 km wide tidal flats.
