South of Keppel Sands is an extensive 20 km long beach ridge plain that has built out 2 to 3 km on the northern side of the Fitzroy River mouth. The entire area is largely undeveloped, apart from land cleared for cattle grazing. Beach 1388 is a 2.3 km long beach and low beach ridge plain, that is bordered by Pumpkin Creek and Keppel Sands in the north and a wide, shallow, unnamed creek in the south. The beach receives only low waves and consists of a low gradient high tide beach fronted by 300 to 600 m of tidal flats and ridges.
