McBrides Point forms the northern headland for 2.5 km wide, north facing Ball Bay. Within the bay are three beaches, the small settlement of Ball Bay and the southern national park camping area at Smalleys beach. Both Ball Bay and Smalleys beach are located on separate roads off the Cape Hillsborough Road. Ball Bay beach (1093) is a 2.2 km long, very low gradient sand beach that extends from the southern side of McBrides Point down to the mouth of an unnamed creek that enters the middle of the bay. The northern end of the beach is backed by the small, quiet Ball Bay settlement, which includes a camping reserve and amenities block, but no store. The beach receives waves averaging less than 0.5 m and consists of a very low gradient beach, that is up to 200 m wide at low tide and widens toward the creek mouth into a series of 500 m wide tidal ridges. read more
