Woodgate is a small, but growing, coastal settlement located 30 km south of Bundaberg. The settlement has basic services and facilities and extends for 2 km along the centre of the 13 km long beach. The beach faces north-east and runs from the mouth of Theodolite Creek in the north to Burrum Point in the south. Burrum Point beach (1515) forms the northern boundary of the 1 km wide Burrum River mouth. It faces south-east and runs for 3.2 km from its junction with Woodgate Beach at Burrum Point to sandy North Shore Point, the northern head of the river mouth. The extensive river mouth shoals protect the beach, which is calm at low tide. However, the deep river channel and strong tidal currents parallel the beach. The beach is accessible from Woodgate via a road off the Walkers Point Road. The Melaleuca walking track parallels the southern half of the beach. read more
