Beach WA 901 commences on the northern side of the north breakwater and trends north-north-west for 3.6km to a low reef tied sandy foreland. The southern corner of the beach has experienced erosion and is partly backed by a makeshift seawall to protect the backing dunes. Towards the mid-section is a popular surfing spot locally known as Dewars (Derrs, Durrs). This section of the beach is only accessible via a 4WD track which runs off Sovereign Drive. The beach receives waves averaging just over 1m, which in the south maintains a low tide terrace beach to at times a transverse bar rip system, with rips spaces every 200m during and following periods of higher waves. The beach is interrupted by small patches of beachrock, with a continuous 500m long section towards the northern end, which also encloses a section of ‘lagoon’ near the northern end of the beach. It is backed by a partially active foredune with several small blowouts, then vegetated transgressive dunes that extend up to 5km inland.
Beach Length: 3.6km
