Norwegian Bay is a curving 5 km wide bay bordered by Beacon Point and the northern Edgar Point. It contains a low energy 6.3 km long beach (WA 1536), with the ruins of the old whaling station located in the northern corner of the bay. Barrier reefs lie 4.5 km off Beacon Point narrowing to 1 km wide fringing reef off Point Edgar, with a 1 km wide gap in the reefs off the middle of the bay. Dunes from Beacon Point parallel the central-southern half of the beach, with dunes actively transgressing north behind the southwest-facing section of the beach (Fig. 4.346). These dunes have transgressed up to 1.5 km inland and are backed by older vegetated dunes that extend right across the 4.5 km wide foreland.
