Beach Q 12 is located on a slight protrusion in the shoreline, and forms the eastern end of the arc that extends from Massacre Inlet. The 5 km long beach faces north and consists of a 2.5 km long central section, with recurved spits extending 1 km to the east and west, giving the entire system a convex shape (Fig. 6.4). The system is fronted by 1-2 km wide irregular sand flats. It is backed by 4-5 km wide salt flats, then an inner converging 1 km wide beach ridge system, and then another 4-5 km of salt flats.
