Mangroves dominate the next 15 km of shore south of the river mouth to beach NT 1440. This is a 700 m long strip of east-facing sand located on the north side of a 100 m wide tidal creek. Ridged sand flats extend 500 m off the beach, grading into 2.5 km wide tidal shoals. The beach consists of overwash flats in the north, grading into a vegetated beach ridge to the south, with salt flats extending 2 km to the west.
