The beach (NT 1445) is eroding into Pleistocene (?) barrier deposits that are being transported westward via the Holocene barriers toward the Roper River. The eastern end of the beach is bordered by the mangrove-fringed salt flats of the Limmen River Delta. The delta and river mouth occupy the next 10 km of shore. The river bifurcates into three deep channels 200 m, 300 m and 400 m wide, which extend across the tidal shoals and up to 5 km offshore.
