Beach NT 1439 extends for 3.1 km north of the northern Roper River entrance. It is the only beach system associated with the river and its deltaic plain, with the remaining gulf shore fringed by mangroves. The beach consists of a low beach ridge that faces southwest as it curves round into the river mouth. It is backed by two older ridges and fronted by low gradient ridged sand flats grading into 5 km wide river mouth tidal flats. The northern end of the beach is eroding, exposing mangroves, while the southern end is prograding into the river mouth as a recurved spit, which terminates in a small mangrove woodland.
Beach Length: 3.1km
General Hazard Rating: 2/10
