Happy Valley beach is located on the Esplanade Bulcock Beach adjacent to Bulcock beach in Caloundra. The area itself is very popular for tourist and day trippers to the beach. The beach provides a highly variable northern bank due to the large mouth of Pumicestone Channel which is a 30km long tidal channel that runs the length of Bribie Island. As a result of this strong tidal currents run in and out of the entrance. The point is a low section which has created a vegetated sand spit that can grow up to 1km in length. The spit faces east and, besides receiving waves averaging 1 m, is daily impacted by the strong tidal currents and shifting channels. The end result is a highly variable beach and surf zone, cut by both wave generated rip currents and tide generated tidal channels and currents. The site previously was only made up of rocks and a small amount of sand, however of the past three years sand has built up and remained in place creating a beach and an inland lagoon in the past. Due to reduced water flow at Bulcock Beach as a result of bar closing, the water here has started becoming stagnant and silty.
