Beach Q 16 extends east of Beryl Creek for 6 km as a low, increasingly narrow, strip of high tide sand and backing casuarinas, backed by salt flats up to 1 km wide, then an inner 3 km wide series of discontinuous beach ridges and salt flats, and finally the inner 1-2 km wide salt flats. The eastern tip of the beach grades into open tidal flats and mangroves formed in lee of low nearshore gradients and shoals that protect a 20 km long section of mangrove-fringed shoreline to Bayley Point.
