Bongaree beach (1558) extends north from Skirmish Point for 4 km to the Bribie Island Bridge, with the town of Bongaree backing the northern 3 km of the beach. This is a narrow low energy beach , subject to wave and tidally driven pulses of sand moving slowly north along the beach. The pulses or sand waves induce a mobile creunlate beach shape, narrowing and eroding the beach in between the waves of sand. As a consequence a seawall and some groynes have been build along much of the beach. Between Bongaree town centre and the bridge the beach is backed by a continuous road and foreshore reserve, together with a fishing jetty, boat ramp, and ample car parking, as well as most facilities for visitors. Calm conditions normally prevail at the shore, however strong tidal currents parallel the beach in the deep Pumicestone Channel. read more
