Immediately west of Bass Point is a 900 m wide south-facing embayment bordered by grassy headlands rising to 50 m. The bay has been partly filled with Killalea Beach (NSW 388) and its backing 17 ha lagoon. The curving 650 m long beach faces south-southeast, exposing it all to southern swell which averages 1.5 m and usually maintain four persistent rips; two against the headlands and two more transient beach rips (Fig. 4.xx314 During big south swell these merge into one megarip flowing out against the western headland.
The beach is backed by a low vegetated foredune and the 18 ha freshwater lagoon, all of which is part of the Killalea State Recreation Area. Access is provided from the main road, with parking provided above the beach, and at the north end of Minnamurra Beach. The beach attracts a lot of surfers and fishers, particularly during summer.
