Fly Roads is the name of the open bay and beach along the north side of Fingal Spit, the beach commencing 200 m south of Box Beach. The narrow spit forms the north side of Fingal Bay and usually ties Point Stephens to the mainland. Fly Roads beach (NSW 228) runs along the north side of the spit for 1.4 km. The beach lies entirely within Tomaree National Park and can only be accessed around the rocks from Box Beach, by 4WD or on foot from the Fingal Bay surf club. It faces the northeast and is relatively protected by Point Stephens. It usually has a shallow attached bar, though increasing wave height up the beach can produce rips during high wave events. During severe storms the whole beach and spit can be breached resulting in it separating into two beaches and Point Stephens becoming an island. read more
