On the south side of Turimetta Head is a 1 km wide-open embayment bordered by 30 m high Narrabeen Head to the south. In between is 350 m long Turimetta Beach (NSW 309, also called Little Narrabeen), with rock platforms and cliffs filling the rest of the bay. The beach is backed by 20-30 m high partially vegetated, steep shale bluffs, then blufftop houses and a road. The beach can only be reached on foot from the north or south end, or round the rock platform from North Narrabeen. It offers no facilities and is a relatively natural beach with rocky areas on the beach and in the surf. It receives waves averaging 1.5 m, which break close to shore over a usually narrow bar and the rocks. Two to three rips usually form at each end and there is a central rip amongst the rocks. During high seas the thin veneer of sand is often stripped off the beach exposing the underlying sandstone and shale rocks. read more
