South of West Head the shore trends south for 8 km deep into Pittwater. Nine beaches (BB 6-14) are located along the 25 km of steep, rocky indented shoreline. All are located in, or surrounded by Kur-ring-gai National Park. The first two are small pockets of sand located immediately south of West Head. The first West Head Beach (BB 6) is a 50 m long east-facing beach, directly opposite Barrenjoey Head. It receives low swell through the heads, which surge across a sand beach and several large rocks scattered on and just off the beach, the latter making landing difficult. A small creek crosses the beach, with a steep densely vegetated valley rising over 100 m behind.
