South of 100 m high Scotts Head is a straight 2 km long section of shore containing two beaches (NSW 132 & 133), separated by 40 m high Middle Head and terminating at 30 m high Grassy Head. The first beach, Middle Beach (NSW 132) is a straight 2.2 km long beach running due south between Scotts and Middle heads. The beach is backed by a low foredune plain that has infilled this broad valley which is surrounded by hills rising to 270 m high Scotts Mountain. Middle Head Creek, which runs down from the mountain, exits occasionally at the northern end of the beach. The beach usually has two bars, an inner attached bar cut by several rips with permanent rips against each headland, and an outer bar with more widely spaced rips.
