Front Beach (NSW 137) is the surfing beach for South West Rocks, a fact recognised early with the establishment of the South West Rocks SLSC in 1926. The surf club is located on the eastern side of Monument Point and looks east along the beach, with a small rock reef, called South West Rocks, located 200 m offshore. The beach curves for 3.7 km to the east, northeast and finally north, terminating against Laggers Point. Saltwater Creek exits against the rocks at the foot of the surf club and follows the rear of the beach for 2.5 m. At the surf club access to the beach is across the creek mouth or via a footbridge from the picnic area. At Laggers Point the beach faces due west and abuts an old breakwater, built in 1878 and extended in 1903. The old Trail Bay Goal and a caravan park cover the point, with direct access to the beach from the caravan park. The beach is moderately protected from most swell, with the protection increasing towards Laggers Point. At the surf club waves average under 1 m which usually results in a continuous shallow bar, with rips only accompanying high wave conditions.
