Tomakin Beach (NSW 559) is linked to the cove at the tombolo, and curves to the southeast, then south for 900 m to the Tomaga River mouth. The northern reefs extend 400 m to the south, while Mossy Point protects the southern end and river mouth, resulting in low waves to each end, and higher waves averaging about 1 m along the central 400 m. The waves maintain a low tide terrace, which is cut by rips in the centre during higher waves, while in the south river mouth shoals extend up to 200 m off the beach, constricting the narrow river channel to between the shoals and rocks of Mossy Point. The river mouth shoals produce the low sandy right off Mossy Point. The beach is backed by a foredune and houses in the north, then a vegetated sand spit which narrows to just 10 m in the centre.
