Meringo lies at the end of a 5 km long sealed, then gravel road that runs in from the Princes Highway. There is little there apart from the beaches, a few houses and a farm. The road ends at a low headland with two beaches to either side (NSW 571 & 572). The northern Meringo Beach (NSW 571) begins at the northern 20 m high basalt headland, with its eroded columns exposed by wave attack. It faces due east and curves to the south for 950 m to the 20 m high Meringo headland. It is backed by Meringo Creek and its small lagoon, which breaks out across the centre of the beach; the remainder backed by a densely vegetated foredune and cleared farmland. Waves average 1.5 m and maintain permanent rips against the boundary points, with 2-3 beach rips in between. The southern beach (NSW 572) curves south to the base of Mullimburra Point, with wave height decreasing from 1.5 m in the north to less than 1 m in the south. These maintain a permanent rip against the northern jagged point, with rips decreasing and a continuous bar to the south. It is backed by a densely vegetated foredune then sloping farmland, with a small creek draining across the southern end. A vehicle track leads down from the northern point to the rear of the beach.
