Chain Bay is an open 1 km wide south-facing bay, bordered by Acheron Ledge and a smaller western rocky point. Between the two points are two beaches (NSW 525 & 526). Beach NSW 525 is located on the western side of Acheron Ledge, and consists of a curving west-facing 300 long beach bordered by the tip of the point and a northern rocky reef. Waves are usually low and often calm conditions prevail, with the reflective sand and cobble beach capped by regularly spaced cobble cusps. It is backed by densely vegetated slopes rising to 20 m, and can be reached on foot from the adjacent Maloneys Beach.
