Moonee Beach at 4.6 km in length is one of the longer beaches in this area extending between Look at Me Now headland and the southern Green Bluff (Fig. 4.50). It faces east-southeast and is one of the more exposed and hazardous, with waves averaging over 1.5 m. A well developed double bar runs the length of the beach, with up to 16 shifting rips cutting the inner bar and more widely spaced rips on the outer bar. Access to the beach is limited to the vehicle track from Emerald Beach in the north, and in the south from the car park near the mouth of Moonee Creek. The area between the beach, and Moonee Creek, which runs northward behind the beach is occupied by Moonee Beach Nature Reserve. A major resort development has been approved for the southern end of the beach, which presently houses a quieter residential area and caravan park, beside the tree-lined creek. read more
