Picnic Beach commences 700 m south of Bengunnu Point and consists of two sections that extend for 900 m to Picnic Point. The northern part (NSW 645) is an exposed 270 m long, southeast-facing beach usually containing one strong permanent rip flowing out past the long northern rocks, that extend 100 m seaward. It lies at the base of the 60 m high Ginns Lookout. The main Picnic Beach (NSW 646) continues south of the 100 m long boundary rocks for 500 m curving to the south then southeast in lee of 10 m high Picnic Point. Waves average 1.5 m in the north with a strong permanent rip against the northern rocks, and usually one central rip, while in the south some protection from the point decreases waves to about 1 m, resulting in an attached bar. Low, densely vegetated slopes descend to the beaches, with car access to the southern end via the Wapengo Lake road, and a car park and camping area behind the beach. read more
